About Chez Denise

If you’re driving through Shannon, Quebec, I always like to point people toward Chez Denise Restaurant, a laid-back restaurant that feels like a local secret the moment you pull in. Located at 439 Bd Jacques Cartier, this spot has that easygoing, no-pressure atmosphere where you can show up hungry and leave happy without overthinking it. What stands out right away is how flexible the experience is, because whether you want to sit down and relax or grab something fast, the place adapts to your pace. On warmer days, outdoor seating adds a casual, almost neighborhood feel, while the drive-through and takeaway options make it incredibly convenient when time is tight. Inside, the vibe stays friendly and unpretentious, which makes dine-in visits feel comfortable for both regulars and first-timers. I usually describe Chez Denise as the kind of restaurant where quick bites still feel satisfying, especially when paired with a cold beer or a simple coffee. The menu leans into familiar offerings, and that’s part of the charm, because it focuses on doing the basics well rather than overcomplicating things. Alcohol and beer are available if you’re in the mood to unwind, yet it’s just as easy to stop by for a casual coffee break or a fast meal on the go. Service options are clearly designed around real-life routines, which makes the whole experience feel practical and welcoming. When I introduce people to Chez Denise, I emphasize how effortlessly it fits into a day, whether you’re passing through Shannon or already know the area well, and how the restaurant manages to balance speed, comfort, and a genuinely local feel without trying too hard. I also appreciate how the location along Bd Jacques Cartier makes it easy to access without detours, which travelers notice right away. The restaurant doesn’t chase trends, yet it stays relevant by offering exactly what people want in the moment. Conversations flow easily here, and the informal setting encourages you to slow down or speed up as needed.

We first tried their Texas Burgers, which were excellent — great value for money! The smash patty was well-cooked, the pulled pork and bacon were generous, and the house coleslaw tied everything together perfectly. The “Unemployed Pudding” was a nice treat too. Impressed by the food, we decided to return the next day with a larger group of nine. As expected, it was a bigger order, and since a few of us are vegetarians, we had to spend some time finding suitable options — the menu could definitely use more purely vegetarian choices. Communication was also a bit challenging, as the staff spoke limited English, which made placing the order take around 15 minutes. After ordering, we waited another 15 minutes before being called to collect our food, only to find two items missing, which added another delay. Unfortunately, the chicken burgers were served with cold fried chicken. Overall, the food has great potential, but improving communication, ensuring food is served hot, and offering more vegetarian options would make the experience much better, especially for larger groups.

Very nice place to eat some burgers and fries/poutines especially with young kids. The atmosphere is a nice 1950’s style diner. The decor, the seating especially at the bar and the music… it’s all in the ‘50’s vibe. The staff was very nice, polite and helpful to all my questions. They have a huge fenced off play area in the back for the younger kids to play in while the parents can eat and have a beer quietly. Everything on the menu looked really good. The pulled pork poutine I had was very good, fries were nicely cooked, a reasonable amount of tasty squeaky cheese was added and a good portion of pulled pork topped it off. It was not my favorite poutine ever but was really good and wouldn’t mind going back for more. The smash burgers other customers were ordering looked very delicious. GOOD JOB

This place was so good. We were visiting Canada from the US, and the staff was so nice and polite helping us understand the menu since we dont speak French. Food came out super fast, was perfectly accurate and absolutely delicious! Our one year old enjoyed the playground outside too! Definitely reccomend!
